ENRICO ROSA is a lyrical guitarist who plays all original tunes on his solo/quartet album PASSIONE & MUSICA (Dore2 recorded in Kolding Denmark).

He sends a ringing cheerful tone through the air on either his classical, western, and electric instrument much the way Larry Coryell express himself.The music has its roots in Folk and appears to blend the cultural aspects of his Italian heritage with that of Northern European countries where he has lived and taught.Elements of Rock with a leaning toward the funky side are occasionally present in his happy sound, as are the fundamendals of Classical music.Accompanying him on four tracks (five cuts are solos) are Torben Bøtker Bjørnskov,bas, el. bas; Matin Alexandr Sass, el piano, organ,piano; and Frank Thøgersen, perc.drums.Rosa creates delightful pictures with his tunes, wich always appear to show the pleasant side of life (Waltzing at ease / Livorno 1973 / Tapum / Odd Walk / Sunset /The Kite / Italian Irish /Dolcemente / Classic Feel.Bassist Torben Bjørnskov is impressive when given the starring role, and Sass adds light touches while Rosa fills in all the space with his lovely phrasing.

Rosa's combining of Italian and Irish influences into a form of the Tarantella on one tune is an excellent example of his deft touch.

He uses the time on the short recording to promote his pristine sound and talent quite effectively.

Enrico leger sig sikkert igennem de kompliceret arrangementer gennem stilarter som jazz, funk og klassisk uden at miste overblikke og hele tiden med melodien i centrum.

Im Jahr 1973 wurde von dem italienischen Gitarrist Enrico Rosa und seiner Band das Album "Campo di Marte" veröffentlicht - ein Meilenstein auf dem Gebiet des italienischen Progressive Rock. - Heute lebt Rosa in Dänemark, unterrichtet dort und tobt sich im Bereich von Jazz, Folk und Klassik aus; gelegentlich sind seine Rockursprünge auch auf seinem neuen Album "Passione & Musica" herauszuhören.

Rosa, der Finger-Picking-Style und Plectrum-Spiel zu seiner individuellen Technik verbindet legt mit seinen Musikerkollegen Frank Thøgersen (perc, dr), Matin Alexandr Sass (p, organ) und Torben Bøtker Bjørnskov (b) ein Album vor, das den Zuhörer mit seiner Leichtigkeit und den vielen ruhigen Passagen in seinen Bann zieht. Hier wird ausgiebig gemischt: ein Solostück ("Sunset" - sehr lyrisch), funkige Songs wie "Tapun" und das folkige "Italian Irish" seien exemplarisch hervorgehoben.

"Passione & Musica" - ein entspanntes und entspannendes Album voller ruhiger Momente, aber auch der Verwendung klassischer Gitarrenmusik verschiedener Epochen ("Classic Feel"). Sehr schön!

Review: Italian-born guitarist Enrico Rosa has been a part of the European music scene for over thirty years, playing on dozens of albums as both a sideman and leader. He has been based in Denmark for many years, and his latest effort, "Passione Musica", features the quartet of Rosa and Danish musicians Torben Botker Bjornskov on bass, Matin Alexandr Sass on keyboards, and Frank Thogersen on drums and percussion.

Rosa is an accomplished classical guitarist who has worked to fuse elements of classical guitar, rock, and jazz styles together into a uniquely personal sound. The concept behind this album is a journey through different musical styles, inspired by Rosa's own passionate love for music. Stylistically, the selections run from a jazzy waltz, funk, a classical guitar duet, and contemporary classical guitar solos with the rhythm section. Rosa switches into a contemporary jazz mode on "The Kite", a lovely balled written in memory of Thad Jones and played by Rose on electric guitar, and featuring a nice bass solo by Bjornskov.

As a guitarist, Rosa has worked to develop a playing technique that combines classical fingerstyle technique with the use of a pick. His playing is reflective of traditional guitar phrasing and his style is not 'jazz' in the sense that his playing is not particularly influenced by swing or bebop. His work will be enjoyed particularly by traditional guitarists, but he is a player of deep musical sensitivity who has managed to produce an album that will speak emotionally to all who appreciate music from the heart.

El italiano Enrico Rosa ha sido parte de la escena musical de los últimos treinta años, tal vez una escena under, pero con un reconocimiento a nivel mundial que lo ha llevado a formar parte de cientos de proyectos en todo el mundo y a nivel personal junto a destacados músicos del ambiente europeo.

Para ser más claros, Enrico fue el cantante y fundador de la banda de culto italiana de rock sinfónico de los ´70 “Campo di Marte”, la cual retornaría en el 2004 bajo el liderazgo nuevamente de Rosa.

“Passione and Passion” es uno de los últimos lanzamientos del músico, ya que recientemente ha sacado “To the Old Friendship”. Ambos trabajos están signados por la música clásica y el jazz, dos de las influencias más directas que posee Enrico y que despliega en casi todos sus trabajos a la perfección.

Desde Dinamarca, lugar donde reside desde hace ya varios años, grabó un trabajo aceptable, a mi gusto, por debajo de los anteriores, ya que hacia el final del mismo se tornan bastante repetitivos los temas.

Destaco como lo mejor del disco a “Livorno 1973” ; “Sunset”, de connotaciones flamencas; “Italian Irish” y “Dolcemente”, aunque en todo el CD, Rosa despliega su maestría y cuanto sabe con la acústica.

Dal Campo Di Marte al jazz-folk

Il livornese Enrico Rosa fu l’apprezzato chitarrista del Campo Di Marte, la leggendaria band fiorentina che nel 1973 pubblicò un eccellente lp d’esordio, ancora oggi ricordato in tutto il mondo come tra i più rappresentativi del progressivo italiano.

Enrico era un ascoltatore onnivoro e un jazzista raffinato, che vedeva nella fusione dei diversi linguaggi l’unico modo per poter realizzare una musica di qualità. Dopo il primo lp e dopo la registrazione del secondo, tuttora fantasma, Rosa lasciò Firenze per trasferirsi in Danimarca, dopo aver lavorato con Gianni e Marcella Bella, con Tavolazzi e Capiozzo degli Area, con Tullio De Piscopo. E’ lì che risiede tuttora con la moglie Eva, ottima flautista; insegna infatti in molti istituti e accademie danesi, dov’è davvero molto apprezzato. Non ha perso dunque la sua passione per la musica, tant’è vero che il suo ennesimo album solista è dedicato proprio ad essa.

“Passione & Musica” è stato pubblicato nel 2001 dalla DO-RE e segue alcuni interessanti lavori ottantiani come “Scherzo Rosa”. Con Enrico, alle chitarre elettriche e acustiche, troviamo tre ottimi musicisti. Frank Thorgesen alla batteria e percussioni, Matin Alexandr Sass alle tastiere e Torben Botker Bjornskov al basso e contrabbasso.

L’album è davvero eccellente e, oltre a dimostrare l’abilità di Rosa come compositore e chitarrista, evidenzia l’amore per la miscela di folk, funk e jazz-fusion. Menzioniamo brani limpidi e cristallini come “Waltzing at ease” e “Odd walk” (bravo il pianista Sass), l’esotico ritmo funky di “Tapum”. Ancora eccellente è “Classic feel”, registrata dal vivo al Kolding Musical Institute. Un brano eseguito alla chitarra elettrica che spazia in modo soffice tra musica antica e moderna, un piacevole excursus. Rosa è personalissimo tecnicamente, anche i compagni sono capaci musicisti, in particolare il bassista, davvero impeccabile.

Non mancano episodi più rilassati e riflessivi. E’ il caso del duetto di chitarre di una perla come “Livorno 1973” o del trittico “Sunset”, “Italian Irish” e “Dolcemente”: intense e delicate, con il solo Rosa alla chitarra classica. Tornano alla mente Paco De Lucia, Anthony Phillips, Riccardo Zappa e lo stesso Pat Metheny dei momenti più ispirati. Tra i brani migliori ricordiamo “The kite”: è una splendida e malinconica ballata jazz dedicata a Thad Jones. Il leggendario fiatista ispira il signorile double-bass playing e il fine lavoro di piano.

“Passione & Musica” è un ottimo album: lo gradiranno i jazzofili più fini e gli appassionati di musica acustica. Da ascoltare.
